Our approach for developing your care plan
The treatment process begins with a consultation discussing your medical detailed history. During this time I listen to your story. Based on the information provided a thorough examination is performed. The results of your testing and medical history will provide essential information when designing an individualized treatment plan to achieve the functional goals we set together.
I take the time to understand the root of your problem in order to provide the best and most effective treatment. Time and time again I’ve found that continued care is a crucial part of the recovery and prevention of future injury.
Take care of yourself
The adjustment is the primary treatment used by Chiropractors for treating spinal or extremity complaints. The Doctor will find areas of restricted motion and then apply a thrust along the specific line of drive for that segment. This allows for proper motion and function of that joint to be restored. The nerves that originate from spine, innervate (signal) organs and tissues throughout the whole body. Chiropractic adjustments have the ability to improve this function. Click the link below to see where your nerves travel and if you are experiencing any symptoms related to the specific spinal levels.
There are many common misconceptions when it comes to the actual “cracking” sound made during certain specific adjustment techniques. There is no bone snapping and is much more gentle than anticipated. The sound is actually called cavitation. It is caused by space being created within the joint causing gases to be released from the joint capsule. There is no wearing of joints due to “grinding.” In fact, quite the opposite. Adjustments improve the motion of your joints and limit the dysfunctions that can lead to arthritis. Most people feel decreased tension, a lightness, and feel taller after an adjustment.
Ultrasound therapy can treat both chronic and acute injuries. This treatment is great at addressing musculature injuries (muscles, tendons, ligaments and bone) involving inflammation. The goal is to reduce pain and speed healing by penetrating deep into the tissue, bringing blood flow to the area, and breaking down scar tissue. Some examples of conditions ultrasound can help treat are: sprains, tendinitis, and bursitis.
There are many forms of electrical stimulation used to treat a large variety of musculoskeletal injuries and nerve pain. E-Stim accelerates deep tissue healing by electrical impulses that cause repeated muscle contractions. These contractions increasing blood flow helping repair injured muscles and improve their strength through cycles of contraction and relaxation. E-stim focus also sends signals that reach the nerves, to block pain receptors from being sent to the brain, resulting in pain relief.
One common question is: “How is E-Stim different than the TENS unit I have at home?” There is a large difference. Although TENS units help reduce the pain signals the current is not as strong and no muscle contraction occurs eliminating the healing component.
Soft Tissue Therapy
IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) is a technique used to break up fascial adhesions (the connective tissue sheath surrounding your muscles) and scar tissue. This results in improved range of motion, more efficient biomechanics and brings blood flow to the area allowing injuries will heal more quickly.
Rapid Release Therapy
Rapid Release Therapy is an FDA registered high-speed vibration device with variable treatment sizes to target large to small muscle areas. This treatment vibrates at 10,000 RPM using this energy to help reduce pain, tension, stress, and muscle tightness.
Specific exercises will be implemented into patient care plans to assist the adjustments and therapies that are performed. Exercises will be demonstrated in the office and will be implemented for at home use to enhance healing.
Who we help
Chiropractic care for babies & children:
Dr. Courtney is experienced in working with patients of all ages. This being said, babies and children are often forgotten when it comes to chiropractic care. Many people ask “why do children need adjustments, they don’t have any pain?”. Let’s start from the beginning, the birthing process can be a traumatic event. Chiropractors check the spine following birth and throughout childhood to ensure optimal neurological and structural development. When infants are developing their bones have not fully hardened yet (ossified). Because of this they are subject to injury or may develop misalignments chiropractors call subluxations from infancy. We have all seen children crawling, climbing, falling, playing sports etc. It is a part of childhood but can have long term effects if left untreated. Chiropractic adjustments are a great addition to your families health habits. Developing these habits in your children from a young age will contribute to your family’s optimal health.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy:
It is well known that many women develop low back or sciatic pain during their pregnancy. Chiropractic care is a safe drug free way to help treat your symptoms. Adjustments ensure the pelvis is properly aligned aiding in a smooth pregnancy and allow the baby to have optimal room for delivery.
Chiropractic for seniors
Many seniors were not aware of the benefits of chiropractic care in the past. But today many seniors are benefiting from pain relief, increased mobility, balance and coordination because of regular chiropractic care.
Many patients present saying “my doctor said my discs are degenerated”. This is no surprise to any chiropractor. It is a well known fact that degenerative disc disease is common as we age and can vary depending on the amount of stress your body was put under along the way. However, with chiropractic care restoring proper motion to the spine, the arthritic process is slowed down. This is why chiropractic for preventative care not just pain based care is so important for improved quality of life for years to come.
Ever wonder why people “shrink” when they age?
Did you know that your discs make up ¼ of your body height?
The answer is that degeneration (dehydration or injury) of your discs is what causes this.
Almost every major sports team today uses Chiropractors to help their Athletes improve performance, help reduce the risk of injury and maintain wellness. There is a reason athletes like Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps and Tom Brady are all proud patients of chiropractors.
Sports Physicals are offered for middle and high school aged students for $25.00.
